The illustrator of a book, Soosh, talks about her fairytale art.

Mar 16, 2022

As I was researching Soosh in order to start this piece thoroughly, I came across her video clips. If you've watched her work, then you'll realize that it's like an old fairytale is reborn. By also adding her voice in the form of stories, she can make the whole experience a complete and enchanting one bringing her fairytale characters to life. Keep reading but make sure you stop by on the YouTube channel with a cup of hot tea and prepare yourself for a pretty special fairytale evening.

We spoke to Soosh what she believes is the most important thing for capturing those small details of life every day through her art

"Hello, I'm Soosh. I was raised and born in the company of people. I identify myself with no religious, ethnic, or national background, or anything else. I spend my time looking at people, myself and others as I delve into the specifics of every aspect. It's not an easy path. I didn't choose it intentionally however, I'm in the path. In terms of traditional art education I'm not a fan of any.

Although I am aware that there are modes of painting and drawing are referred to as styles, I have never given much thought as to what type that my drawing would fit into. If I were to come up with a word for the style, I would say it's a "fairytale realistic" kind of style. But speaking frankly, no style.

I think the key for me, as I see it is to observe using your heart as with your eyes. It may take some practice to notice the small things, like with any other skill. The trick is to remain quiet for some time and remain present for the present moment. Pay attention. Observe closely, without haste.

My obsession has always been with people. Their expressions on their faces and mimicry of their actions, their gestures actions of kindness and the flaws they exhibit - all it's so intriguing and fascinating for me. After that, it's the matter of some pencils, and a few watercolours to get into and bring life to those daily pictures printed on paper."
