Wonder Jam Wonder Jam is "a brand family that help small, creative businesses to develop" The words immortalized by Daft Punk, harder more efficient, quicker, and stronger. The brand name, Wonderly, builds websites along with Visual branding tools as well as Membership software to help its clients "set their own different". I spoke to its managing partner Allie Lehman and developer Matt Hart to learn more.

Fine art and work that is freelance for the fullest extent

"My roots are in fine arts. I grew up performing lots of oil painting and drawing," starts Allie Lehman. "At high school I had a fantastic teacher of art who, funny enough, advised me that I could develop into an illustrator or graphic designer'' having no idea what those terms were! I chose graphic design and I went to university to study the subject."

Allie quit during the downturn in 2009 and was employed as web hosting Support. "It was a bit stressful but I learned many things regarding hosting servers, the procedure of how WordPress was installed, and all aspects of web site's appearance," she remembers. "In 2013, I launched The Wonder Jam, now the company we own. I quit my job as a designer and began doing full-time work for the business."

She had been working alongside Matt Hart for a couple years prior to this. Matt Hart would create websites and she would design the websites. After that, they started working together much more often: "We've been working together since the past 10 years beginning as freelancers. It was a natural partnership. Our focus is now on service-oriented companies that build WordPress websites." Allie adds.

Matt begins: "I do primarily WordPress development. The process was taught by myself in the early 2010s. Many users were navigating the WordPress web and thought"We have to implement CSS so that your theme conform to the proper colors'. It was very dull very quickly!" he smiles. With the introduction of web page builders, such as Beaver Builder and Elementor came into play, they were able to gain some versatility: "We could do things using a customized approach that specifically addressed the needs of our clients, and we were able to satisfy us with our creative thinking."

Since their first partnership, Allie and Matt have focused on "going customized in a manner which is affordable" according to Matt states: "We do only what customers want, and we don't do what our clients don't. That's what our customers are concerned about: they don't want this to feel like a mystery. They want to feel empowered. Through these tools, let us accomplish this."

Allie continues: "In 2013, I began The Wonder Jam with my husband after I had started doing a freelancer on my own. We were lucky to have Matt as a developer contractor. We had a desire to create. We wanted to develop our own thing, we sought this freedom." This is how Wonder Jam was born.

Soil, support and systems

"We originate originally from Columbus, Ohio and it's a really welcoming open location for small-scale businesses," she continues. "Matt was in the area on his way to Seattle and we got started cooperating with local clients. we'd walk through the main streets, and look around at the businesses we've collaborated with." In the year 2020, following seven years with The Wonder Jam and as The Wonder Jam began expanding nationwide, they became the company's parent with three sister brands.

Wonderly is focused on businesses which provide services such as writers, non-profits, chefs and fitness instructors. They also have the brand Basis, focusing on retailers and people selling products. It also has an additional brand, Studio Wonder, an events space and photography studio within Columbus.

The three brands offer lots of flexibility in creativity: "It allows our team to focus on the things they want to achieve as well as the capability to develop their own procedures," Allie says. "Because Matt and I started our collaboration right from the start around the year 2000, we've accumulated over a decade of processes under our belts. There are photos of 2017 that show us using whiteboards to document every stage of our procedure, to ensure that our clients get the best guidance.

"The Wonder Jam operates as the "soil" which provides everything a small-scale enterprise needs on in the background. Then, each of the sister brands gets to "sprout" in their individual way, and do its thing with the possibilities that come up. It allows all options be clear and free of any hiccups caused by things that make it challenging to manage as a one or one-person enterprise," Matt continues. "We are a group of companies which can work in tandem."

Basis is a Basis brand focuses on Shopify and eCommerce. However, sometimes there's one client who would like to start blogging and wants to create something better than what Shopify offers. Thus, Wonderly will come in and give assistance for the Basis customer on the processes that are that are related to WordPress. "We can support and collaborate on a regular basis and act like a team, however, everyone is able to focus on a particular area which is satisfying for the individual," he smiles.

"The Wonder Jam sits as an unifying platform. No one is responsible for offering us suggestions on whom to collaborate with or what amount of revenue we should achieve - that's completely dependent on the partner managing it," continues Allie. The brands have shared instruments like software, a system for managing projects as well as the client concierge. Management partners can to secure the project. Team members are able to onboard the project and handle all the backend admin like invoicing and contracts.

"It allows people such as Matt and myself to be focused on what they're doing." Allie smiles. "I consider that we've created an ideal working environment. It's all about ensuring that our customers enjoy great experiences. When they contact us via email and feel that they're receiving prompt responses and are at ease throughout the entire process."

Matt agrees: "We say we don't design designs to you. We design in collaboration with you. We're not going off for some time in order to design something specifically for them. We meet a lot and let them see how we work from beginning to end, rather than leaving to our crafting caves to create things all by ourselves!"

Contexts and clients

Matt as well as Allie have had the pleasure of working with lots organizations that need their site to be accessible in a variety of ways. "Some of our clients are not-for-profit organizations. They are extremely robust websites. These are often complex or they've existed for a long duration. So we are usually consolidating or condensing them so they could be more simple," Matt explains.

"We're in contact with those who are looking for sites that allow memberships, such as people from food industry," Allie continues. Wonderly's clients tend to be people who do human-service-oriented work: "They're fighting for equality, they're looking to talk to their audience a little differently. The people we work with are those who've put a lot of their own enthusiasm, their time, as well as money into their endeavor," she adds.

The Wonder Jam brands are able to work with anyone, from large-scale nonprofits to single-person entrepreneurs that want to work full-time after a side-business. "We've created structures that will meet the specific needs of each. We're finding out what scales best and what to consider differently in cases where the scale is dramatically different. That stuff's really fun to explore!" Matt laughs.

The author adds that "With charitable organizations, they usually have an established structure and have been able to figure out all the legal hoops they had to cross. This is often how we can make it work because we're not trying to start an attempt to start over." A group could reconsider the issue and decide the context that would help someone make a donation and make the process easier.

The beginning of our collaboration and with each client regardless of their type of company and the size of the site, The Wonder Jam team talks about the notion of customer service. "A website could be a tool that's really efficient in making a sale, but it could also be really good at getting returning customers, or being an asset. What we typically are asked is "Is this an asset or is it capable of creating VIPs?' These are the people who are believed as the key clients for small-scale companies," Allie explains.

Matt and Allie both agree that websites don't have to be all things for everyone, and that it's important to think strategically. "Whenever we're doing an online membership website, the foremost thing to consider is we want our customers to return be able to use it each time and believe that it's the most value they've had," Matt adds.

Case research: Simi and Molly

Allie states: "One of our clients, Simi Botic, has an exercise group and is a participant in Unmeasured and is all about moving your body. It's called the Barre Method. She is so compassionate. view of "Just Get Moving without trying for ways to "punish" the body. There are a variety of alternatives that are based on your flexibility."

When Simi first signed up to Wonderly there was only a tiny number of videos posted on the website. They they could be updated every week. "It allows things to be more organised and allows her to manage her work schedules," Allie confirms. "After approximately two to three years in operation We grew our members' list, which gives her the chance to offer greater value to the people she serves and it's a great thing. We're thrilled to be capable of changing our approach when clients' goals shift; it's an issue of reviewing our design and making tiny changes, and then implementing those when we are developing."

Another customer, Molly Baz, wanted to transition from her existing platform to one that could be more distinctive and engaging. "Her brand's identity and visual is distinctive and unique to her. She wanted the people who visited her brand to feel alive in that fashion. She sent recipes, news as well as all kinds of information they are accustomed to, but with a style that was genuine and true to her character," Allie explains.

Molly's networks have become very important to her. "To be able to put it in a structure which is consistent with the style of her other websites changing the site from 'Oh yeah that's an image of Molly Go buy her cookbook', to something very significant, in and outside of the membership. This has many advantages," Allie muses.

"Something we've tried to do with our clients is think about the things they'll find similar to their lives if we don't talk to them all day. We're making sure they've proper systems and processes in place to enable their use of the tool we've designed for help them. Molly's experiences are a good illustration of this," Matt agrees.

Further information, as well as future plans

Matt and Allie are working with companies and websites that require "a vast lens of accessibility" to people with disabilities. "We're working with some truly amazing organizations who work in order to make these sites and prototypes accepted by these types of individuals."

The clients we work with are extremely delicate and have always had a sense of respect," Allie concludes. "We are fortunate to collaborate with fascinating individuals who's values guide their work. It's a pleasure to be able to make stuff that is for them," Matt smiles.
