We asked Titika what was the secret to making her images in black and white.

"My name is Titika Rotkjaer. I'm an artist hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. Following my studies in communication from Roskilde University, Denmark, I relocated to Norway to study visual art beginning in the Oslo National Academy of the Arts then in Bergen which is where I completed my studies in visual art through the Bergen Academy of Art and Design with a MA in textile Art. I have no formal education in photography. My understanding of editing and photography is derived from my ongoing self-education.

Are you interested in learning more about my personal style? Could I talk about style instead? I don't think of style... I tell stories through an intimate and poetic perspective In each photograph I concentrate in determining mood, expression and the atmosphere. Making my pictures appear is a process. My goal is always to improve and clarify the expression. Sometimes I re-edit old images in the event that I acquire new information that enables me to come closer to the image I was trying to achieve.

What is the secret to my mysterious photographs ...? The majority of my photographs - made over the last four years, I've explored the complex and the self, while focusing on connecting both the outer and inner worlds. A lot of my photos however, not all consist of digitally manipulated pictures (all are, naturally taken by me).

My process typically starts with an interest or a curiosity to explore a theme or an array of emotions. I shoot, write notes, and then read for additional knowledge. Then I continue to shoot. Making use of the photos often leads me to construct an original image out of several others. I work experimentally, subjectively, and intuitively with the subject matter to let my images take shape. I don't have a clear vision of the end result to my eye, and then shoot the elements to build it."
