We inquired with Titika about her secret for the mysterious black and white photographs

"My moniker is Titika Rotkjaer. I'm an artist from Copenhagen, Denmark. Following my studies in communication from Roskilde University, Denmark, I transferred to Norway to further my studies in visual art initially in the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, later in Bergen in Bergen, where I concluded my study in visual arts at Bergen Academy of Art and Design and earned an MA in textile Art. I do not have formal instruction in photography. My understanding of editing and photography is derived through continuous self-education.

Would you like to learn more about my personal style? Would I like to discuss style instead? I don't think of style... I tell stories through an artistic and personal viewpoint, in each image I concentrate in determining mood, expression and the atmosphere. The way I create my photos is a procedure. I always aim to refine and clarify the expression. In some instances, I redo old photographs if I gain new knowledge that allows me to move closer to the expression I wanted to create.

The key to making my mysterious photographies ...? The majority of my photographs that I have created over the past four years, I've been exploring the complexity and the self, with a special interest in the connection between inner and outer realities. Some of my photographs are not necessarily the same. are constructed digitally of several images (all obviously taken by me).

My process typically starts by expressing an interest or desire to investigate a particular theme or complex of feelings. I shoot, write notes and read to gain additional knowledge. Then I shoot again. Working with the images often leads me to construct an entirely new image from many others. I experiment, subjectively as well as intuitively with themes to let the images take shape. I don't have a clear vision of what I want to achieve in my mind's eye and then shoot the elements to create the picture."
