Painting and installation work - The CreativeMindClass Blog
Nicole Mueller is an artist from San Francisco. Her works include large-scale painting as well as murals and installations inspired by the look from stained glass. Motivated by processes, her abstract works are vibrant and saturated. They are constructed using layers of collage-like patterns. Her work explores the complexity of color, states in flux, dichotomies inside painting, the fundamental transition of the human condition, and the boundary between interior and exterior, both tangible and intangible.
About my background
I'm mostly a painter living and working full-time as an artist in San Francisco, California.
My professional experience includes painting murals, installation work, as well as being involved in arts administration and career development.
I studied painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, where I lived for several years prior to moving towards on the West coast.

A significant portion of my job and purpose revolves around co-hosting Beyond the Studio with fellow artist Amanda Adams, a podcast that aims to increase visibility in the world of art by interviewing other working modern artists on their professional pathways.
My personal style
Most of what I do is instinctual, driven by process, abstract and highly saturated built with color and layers of collage-like patterns.
I paint large-scale and light-activated windows to mimic the visual effects of stained glass, and murals. In this project I'm studying dichotomies, changes in state, the threshold between external and interior, and the tangible and the intangible.

What is the secret to creating my art
I'm of the opinion that being consistent in your attendance at your job is crucial. For me making a habit of studio work and setting myself goals to keep moving forward has helped me prioritize my tasks when life gets in the way. Also, knowing when to step back to rest or even take breaks (for one day, a month, or even for a longer period of time).
