Painting and installation work - The CreativeMindClass Blog

Nicole Mueller is an artist from San Francisco. Her artwork includes large-scale works as well as murals and installations inspired by the look that stained glass can produce. Driven by process these abstract paintings are vibrant and saturated. They are constructed with layers of collage-like shapes. Her work explores the complexity of color, states of flux, dichotomies within painting, the transitional nature of being, and the boundary between interior and exterior, the tangible and intangible.

About my background

I'm mostly a painter being a full-time artist in San Francisco, California.

My professional experience includes mural painting, installation work in addition to working in the field of arts administration and career advancement.

I took art classes in The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) located in Baltimore in Maryland, where I resided for a number of years before moving out to the west coast.

A significant portion of my work and mission involves co-hosting Beyond the Studio with my fellow artist Amanda Adams, a podcast designed to promote awareness of the art industry through interviews with other contemporary artists about their career paths.

About my style

The majority of my work has been instinctual that is driven by process. abstract, extremely saturated, constructed with layers of color and colors of collage-like forms.

I make large-scale paintings and light-activated windows to mimic the visual effects of stained glass and murals. Within this work, I'm exploring dichotomies, changes in state, the boundary between interior and exterior, the tangible and intangible.

What is the secret to creating my work

I'm of the opinion that showing up consistently for your job is crucial. For me developing a studio practice and setting myself goals to push forward made it easier for me to prioritize my tasks whenever life gets in the way. It also helps in taking the time to slow down and take a break or rest (for days, a month, or even more).
