Information about the fiber artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist and illustrator living in Baltimore. I came to Baltimore in order in order to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in which Nicole Mueller and I met and began to become friends. It was before that we began our Beyond the Studio podcast together. In the past nine years, I've been building up my own small business in the field of art called Call Studio Close Call Studio which I run in full-time.

What would you say about the style you prefer?

My approach to art making, whether that's drawing, sewing or whatever is unselfconscious and meant to delight and inspire others. It's possible to be moody and direct and some of my work can be kinda dark but there's always some humor and playfulness involved.

What are the keys to creating art?

The process varies from season to year, however having the mindset that is "no stress" in the studio is absolutely key to me at the moment. I've been a huge deal of pressure on myself, which did not reflect well in my work or living. Therefore, allowing spaces for relaxation and garden are just as imperative to my process as sitting down to draw.
