The fiber-artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist as well as an illustrator living in Baltimore. I moved here in order to attend MICA, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) which is where Nicole Mueller and I met and became friends before we started Beyond the Studio. Beyond the Studio podcast together. Since the beginning of the year I've worked hard to build my art-related business, a small one Close Call Studio which I run full time.

What would you say about your style?

My style of art-making whether drawing, sewing or drawing is not self-conscious, designed to please and inspire people. My style can be moody or explicit and some of my art can appear dark but there's always an element of humor and fun to be found.

What's the secret to creating art?

It varies from season the season, but having an attitude of "no stress" at the drawing table is absolutely key for me right now. I've put on a lot deal of pressure on myself, which did not reflect positively on my work or living. Therefore, allowing space for rest and gardening are just as imperative for my work as sitting down to draw.
